End Ringing in the Ears

Ringing in the ears or “Tinnitus” is a medical condition where a person hears noise (commonly a high pitched ringing)either in one or both ears or in your head when there is no external sound to provoke this.  Although Tinnitus is referred to as a “ringing in the ears” other sounds such as a screeching, whining, hissing, etc. are often heard.  This noise can be constant and last for days or it may only occur from time to time.  It may only be a faint ringing that you can barely notice or it may sound like somebody is firing a fog horn off in your skull.  Regardless of the severity of the condition, this is something that you will obviously want to stop.

There are many possible causes of Tinnitus, but one of the most common is from noise induced hearing loss.  Listening to loud music and working around loud machines for prolonged activity are common factors that cause Tinnitus.  If you have ever gone to a concert and your ears ringing afterword and you were still experiencing it the next day, permanent damage may have already occurred.

To end the ringing in your ears, there currently is no “medical cure” or pill that is going to relieve your condition. There are other alternatives that have worked wonders for people, they just require a little more commitment on your part, but trust me, it will be worth it.  A little disclaimer here, if you are suffering from Tinnitus or ringing in the ears, go see your doctor right away.  If it’s diagnosed early enough, it may be treatable.  You’ll want to have a hearing assessment done so the doctor can determine the severity of your condition.

Recommended treatment options for Tinnitus range from therapy, relaxation, joining support groups, hearing aids, biofeedback, hypnosis, the herb ginkgo, a cochlear implant, electrical stimulation, among others.  I recommend looking into each of the treatment options as everybody is different and you’ll know what you’re most comfortable with.  Make sure you give each option you try ample time, at least 3 months, as this won’t stop completely overnight.  You may notice, however, a drastic reduction with the ringing in the ears after only a few days.

Relaxation techniques such as meditation are particularly helpful as stress levels are one of the key triggers of tinnitus.  Listening to soothing music is also another option if you are having a hard time concentrating on anything other than the ringing in the ears.
