Effective Tips for Tinnitus Relief

Tinnitus Relief

If you’re experiencing a ringing sound, hissing sound, buzzing, or crackling sound in your ears on a consistent basis, then chances are you have a condition known as Tinnitus.  Tinnitus victims can hear many different noises that range from a small disturbance to a major life changing condition.
There are many different causes of tinnitus, but the most common ones are as follows:

  • exposure to excessive noise levels for prolonged periods of time
  • blood pressure
  • stress
  • diet
  • medications
  • injuries to the head and neck
  • diabetes
  • tumors
  • earwax buildup

If you were to ask a traditional medical doctor, chances are they would tell you that there is no cure for
tinnitus and that it is something that you will have to learn to live with.  While the idea that all natural,
homeopathic treatments can provide permanent tinnitus relief is gaining momentum, it still has not been fully endorsed by the medical community.  While there may be many reasons for this, this topic will require its own article(or book for that case).

While there are a many different tinnitus treatments available, a frustrating reality is that what works for one person may not work for another.  Other than an all natural approach, many of these treatments will simply provide temporary tinnitus relief.  However, one approach that will benefit everyone is eating a diet that is low in saturated fats, salt, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and any processed foods.  If you eat these types of foods on a regular basis, your body will expend additional energy trying to process these foods and will not have the energy required to help your body return to it’s natural state of balance.  Additionally, superfoods like pineapple can be very beneficial because it has been found to reduce inflammation which can increase circulation.  Also, consuming more zinc has proven helpful in some people.

For quick and temporary tinnitus relief, try running the kitchen faucet and just focusing on the sound of the water.  Many people find this to help ease those really bad moments when the ringing is too loud.  When going to bed, you can try listening to some soft music, or what is known as white noise(snow).  You can purchase a cd or mp3 that is specifically made for this.  This helps by distracting your ears from the ringing and can actually help you fall asleep.

Many tinnitus sufferers participate in a newer therapy called tinnitus retraining therapy, or TRT.  This is a
combination of counseling and using a masking device.  The counseling is with a specialist who understands what you are dealing with can make recommendations based on what you are experiencing.  The other part of this tinnitus relief therapy involves the use of a masking device, which is similar to a hearing aid, but produces a slight sound that helps counteract the ringing in your ears.  There has been some success with this technique and it has been picking up some steam in recent years.

One of the most underrated techniques used to alleviate tinnitus is practicing relaxation.  Since stress is one of the biggest triggers of the ringing ears, practicing either meditation, yoga, or even deep breathing has been very beneficial to patients and is the backbone of many successful programs.
