Cure for Tinnitus

Currently, there is nothing on the market that your doctor can prescribe for you and nothing that can give you a cure for tinnitus overnight.  As a matter of fact, in many cases, the drugs that some people are on may be causing the tinnitus.

Let’s look at some common causes of tinnitus.

The most common causes of this condition are either from age related hearing loss or from exposure to loud and excessive noises(e.g. loud music, working near loud machinery).  If you enjoy live music, or work in a loud environment, make sure that you wear ear plugs or some other form of ear protection.  It is an easy way to prevent the tinnitus from worsening and it may become less annoying over time just by doing this.

Another very common cause of this condition are certain types of medications such as aspirin and antibiotics.  Often, speaking with your doctor and cutting back on these may relieve the symptoms.

Other health problems such as vasculitis, or high stress levels may cause tinnitus.  Many times a holistic approach as well as relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga can provide the “cure for tinnitus”.

You may have heard that there is no cure for tinnitus.  While there is no medical cure, there are other ways of ridding yourself of this problem.  We will touch on these in a moment, but first you must realize that no two people are the same and some of these techniques may work for some and not for others.  Our research also indicates that the majority of people are looking for a quick cure for tinnitus and give up much too soon, usually after a week or so.  Just make sure you give your body ample time to adjust.

~Avoid caffeine.  While this may be difficult for many of you, caffeine has been shown to increase the level of the ringing and while cutting this out may not be considered a cure for tinnitus, it will greatly help.

Stop using nicotine.  The same goes for nicotine.  This has been shown to increase the levels of tinnitus and if you stop using, you may notice a significant difference.

Remember to use ear protection when exposed to loud noises.

If you’re taking aspirin, antibiotics, loop diuretics, or other ototoxic drugs, speak with your doctor about changing doses as these may be causing your tinnitus.

Make sure pick a treatment and give it ample time to begin working.  And if one option doesn’t work for you, don’t get discouraged and give up.  Try something else.  While there is no medical cure for tinnitus, if you follow these guidelines, you will find the relief you’re looking for!
